NOT EXPECTING

Not expecting gestures
to pursue or rescue
the two bog turtles
languishing in a turf of mesh
among fishing nets
their need
clarifies and shapes
my footsteps
familiar with our mission
flashes in sunshine
over the Cape
and slowly by the shore
they move,turn
catching my eye
and are safe to return
into the surf.
