LEAVES
(for Emily Dickinson)

Leaves fall in the snow
giving the earth her attire
keeping nature in the Fall
in red and orange fire,

Believing the call
from a skylark
as spring clothes
the trees from the dark,

We desire rebirth
from a winter demon
on a sleepless swing
from the sparkling sun.
