far from Montreal,
you gave a floating tribute
in your fine painting
on Rosa Luxembourg
as a gift to your lover
the artist Joan Mitchell
what oils,light, gloss
in your good works
which make us think
we have a right to be happy
in an unhinged afternoon
knowing the aberrant hours
of a vital genius has arrived.
