AGON
(In memory of T.S Eliot
1888- 1965)

Birthed on St. Louis stones
in a noonday visionary stare
scattering by the sea rocks
your Petrine prayer atones
by an inherited courted sun
embracing a desired love
from the rising of the dead
that dares loose its flame
with bread granted shadows
of slight red shading
in a white and black drawing
of a mourning dove
above the Evergreen trees
with your initialed name
fathered by a sea breeze
by a clever knowing Nereid
the poet buried far away
by St. Michael's grave
of what is wrought by fire
here is a poet T.S. Eliot
in shadowed visits to Rockport
by the greensward grass
a memory desired to this day.
