THE CAT

The cat
woke up early
it has been up
for two nights
over the Vermont roof,
the day fades
when she is away
now she is by the fire
near the sound proof room
away from the storm
without any power play
waiting to get warm
in the flowering shade
without a gesture of gloom
by wanting to get out of the way.
