SOMNAMBULIST POET

In the farthest corner
far from attache cases
and the fruit stand
eating a pear
before a little antique shop
he murders a Danish
plays chess,
devours a cheese fritter
has a cold cafe au lait,
it's only 6 A.M
he goes to the zoo
to free the monkeys
with a special key,
watches a cardinal
try to enter the ceiling
of the cathedral,
dreams he is:
a Samurai warrior
a secret hashish smoker
a stand down comedian
a woman in drag
a citizen of the world,
perhaps a ghost,
minstrel maker
on crucified strings:
the poet cannot cease
to play.
