in a sound proof studio
at his keyboard
to play a piano solo
of Ravel's tribute
to Couperin
he had stored
in his memory
then a bolero
which spoke to him
after he spoke
by long distance
to a  doctor
and friend from Mali
in a dissonant
phone conversation
who had a strange dream
of being at a leper colony.
