You cannot play Mahler
his Symphony no. 2
in your relaxed parlor
with nothing else to do
for "The Resurrection"
is a pass over to heaven
for Gentile, Christian and Jew,
not a time for a confection
a bit of lemon
or even unleavened bread
won't due,
but a chorus of creation
from all ashes and loss
rises us to cross over
with music of salvation
for the forgiving and loving
the living and the dead.
