JOHN MILTON'S UNIVERSE

I lived in a town
named Milton
but we think it was
once a mill town
not named
after the famed poet
yet we two poets
both adapted
verses from the psalms
to enlighten adolescence
for me it was to know
God's presence
and to win school prizes
and exercises
in Hebrew ,Latin,Greek
I would take a peak
of the authorized version,
for King James caught my eye
having learned
as an encyclopedic spy
from the Book of Knowledge
that these esteemed poets
of the Seventeenth century
fasted and prayed
for the right version
but who knew
it would lead
to my own conversion
and verses of juvenilia
even in my glossolalia
of my awkward tongue
going forward
being so young
yet ripe for discovery
in my seriousness
making up plays
in utmost seriousness
boasting of my characters
and coasting in my way
of a new consciousness
to be ambitious
having kept a diary intact
to daily express
my glorious reflections
called "Letter to my Lord"
on nature and creation
about my spiritual health
like a curious Lucretius
Jesus, Theophrastus
or Milton himself.
