PATRICK KAVANAGH'S FAMINE
(1905- 1967)
Silence cannot save us
in the unspoken wind
when church and state
were conceived in sin
in the days of the famine
which is set in stone
damned in a failure
to ever atone,
even death deceives
its violence on the earth
for no marked graves
cover our clover
where a life recollected
briefly behaves
and then is covered over.
