with a newly polished
pianist, Mr. Press
when I am ten years old
in short white pants
my recollection
like a flight of words
of classical notes in the recital
our memory moves easily
to live with the past
with a perfect echo's miracle
of pitch
which outlasts us
for a music we cannot resist.
