WALKING ON GLASS

Walking on glass
which is black ice
harrowing March
expecting resistance
on the urban landscape, 1980
setting out for Harvard Square
over Longfellow bridge
with a green back pack
expecting spring to show up
but only a guy with two holes
in his arms and eyes
asks me for directions
in the midst of thunder.
