JOHN DWYER McLAUGHLIN'S ART
(1989-1976)

Spending time
reading my text in Milton
now next door in Sharon
where
this abstract artist
was born
I'm awakening to swim
on the Indian- named
Lake Massapoag
giving a poetry reading
from my catalog
inspired by John Dwyer's
an abstract expressionist
witnessing his triangle
of paintings
in geometric forms
with its muscular rectangles
which poetically
speaks to me
from the language
and dialog from our age
in intervals of an art catalog
from this art pioneer
who while experiencing 15th
and 19th century
Japanese painters
from his poetic space
arousing his imagination
in new gestures,notation
with a life span
from  his canvas structures
in introspection
offering us
a free wheeling invitation
into a fascinating minimalism
leveraging a technique
of adjacent planes
reflecting in other cultures
as in the Japanese notion
of taking a peek at the void
and plays of Noh
after Hiroshima ,Dachau
and Freud
with a debt to Mondrian
and Malevitch
in his Buddhism
offering of introspection
as we had an invitation
which points to Dana Point
in Southern California's
Germano Celant's Pace
art gallery hallways
who is always relevant
to learn from
in an influential narrative
at the "Light and Space"
interior art exhibition
which opened its doors
as we walk
the museum floors.
