ON THE ROOF

On the edge narrow roof
over my glare at the balcony
a sparrows are dancing
as a lightening flare
from dark shadows thunder
terrorizes us in sparks
bursting lately of wonder
on a frozen space
by my cloudy window
as flakes fall from the sky
while two lovers resting
awake at dawn
relaxing
and shrouded on the daybed
say goodbye
with January caps still on
and telegram the family
that though snow hovers
below the sunshine
on the forest wood lawn
as  the first winter storm
reaches the neighborhood
in a first winter storm
with green tea
they are warm
reading BZ's poetry words
and maxims of knowledge
hearing his playing riffs
of jazz from a tenor sax
along his library corridors
watching the country drifts
along the Cape's beach
of tiny birds
feeding and sharing bread
relieving them of thirst
at their morning visit.
