BRETON'S DAYS
(1896-1966)

In the days of puppet-masters
the children watch the show
by the window pane
a sailor breathes in undertow
in the waves of the Seine
meeting the wordless
by the mute shore
in the days of lovers
who desire everything
under full face moons
a family mourns
the underground poets
whose thousand images
join in the sands off Normandy
cannot be erased.
