BEACH SCENE
Each time
we reach out
at De Koonings'
"Beach Scene"
something
of a happening
teaches me
so sternly
that every passing
minute of the picture
in the museum
engages my invitation
to stay a little longer
for an inscription
and signature
of nature
makes me return
to the sand off the Cape
by the ocean
brushing me
in perpetual motion
and shape revealing
in a chance line
what any Beat
can glean or hear
in a riff of sax
as I put up my feet
relax and play
by moving my body
to another serene
solo description,
as knowing each
arpeggio's scale
cannot repeat
its invitation's cut
of rhythmic language
on the sea to sail
sing and scat
on the street.
