MARK ROTHKO RETROSPECTIVE
(1903-1970)
On Massachusetts Avenue
on cold snow storm day
it gets frozen
even in my pea jacket
looking at the clocks
outside the penthouse
at Holyoke Center
feeling a fraction of time
eyeing Mark Rothko
amid his rectangular
muscular shadows
at those forms now restored
on a silent wall of colors
in light orange and yellow
from faint water color dreams
on abstract blocks of murals
that seems to awaken a poet
to art's unorthodox painter
owing it to our posterity
to return to a mystic
of this critic's own humanity.
