IMPROVISATION#321
BY THROWING STONES

By throwing stones
into the sea
between lunch
bouncing out far
with its own gravity
on the islands
at a distance
we have a reality
away from the beach
holding on to the railings
to step out
in the daylight
from a desolate space
over the docks
within reach of the Cape
with an artist's eye
who watches
his chance
to spy \ shape\ in sculpture
the rocks
by his water colors
to draw in palings
of a landscaped fence
by waiting only on culture
as his defense.
