FRANCIS BACON'S "CRUCIFIXION"
(1909-1992)

What mask of tears
on a face in its dispersion
do we ask to uncover
on the canvas
from Francis Bacon's art
as its grotesque part
of disgraced raw images
gives us a review
in modernity's language
as we students
saw of fraternity
of isolated steel cages
along the corridor
of nightmares in the museum
from an Irish interior decorator
of cross -shaped
nail placement
printed in a pastel
of a human asphyxiation
out of a rape
from Hell's urges
when a body emerges
in its arrival
without drink
from isolation
we begin to think
of the mural and moral
that verges in the expiation
at our own survival.
