IMPROVISATION #104
SUDDENLY JOHN DONNE

Suddenly John Donne
unannounced approaches
my consciousness
on my open sun porch
while listening to etudes
and waltzes of Chopin
relating me his lines
of his divine elegies
and poetry addressing me
in perfect English diction
how he changed his locution
reflecting his church position
when realizing our religion
is about a person
not searching for a vocation
in his career
or recognizing pure myth
by your admirers
from a metaphysical school
without any false theology
of a visionary poet's art
always wishing for miracles
nor for taking any demons part
of another location
for the Golden Rule
restored to the knot
of the history in his memory
that he creates from hope
favored in this century
by T.S. Eliot and Yeats
in a savored region
of the singing spirit
even from boasting
the most foolish
impurest heart.
