ONE MINUTE IN VICHY

Joseph
Sangrine
Pierre
Scene- Occupied France 1944

J. We are just two figures on this map but look at how much we have done.

S. But we will resist the fascists, anyway.

J. We expect not to be taken away and that Pierre will help.

P. I'm writing a poem in my diary far away from cafe Lamartine.

The earth
cannot scatter our ashes
another generation
cannot imagine what fascism
is like
seizing us
book burning
and burning people
our mouth will be filled
with joy out of suffering
and so much daily sorrow
when peace and liberation
arrive in a consuming sun
yet I hear a million voices
we are learning
to be united as one,
today will already be tomorrow.

The door is broken down. With their last ammunition they shoot the fascists.

The end.
